I have been very, very good and stingy all year (until I began buying christmas presents).

But this… THIS…

IT WANTS ME TO TOUCH IT AND STROKE IT AND PET ITS HEAD AND FEED IT MARROBONE.

And I’m very, very, very likely to. Isn’t anyone going to try to talk me out of it?

So... Would that mean you wouldn't have to share a computer with Slen and whoever? ;)

Personally, I don't think flashy looks are worth that much, really. <_<

Eh, well, I don't game, so I don't need a PC with enough firepower to take out a Borg Cube. ;)

Gods. I'm reminded of a cartoon from the early 1980s or so. Salesmen in a microcomputer store are bemoaning the lack of business, and one of them has an idea: "Let's put tail fins on them." In the next frame, customers are lined up to buy the latest model and carrying it happily out of the store.

A lot of things would look better with tail fins.

Well, maybe not guitars. Cars, for sure. And maybe computers too.

There's something oddly attractive about that one.

Oh, but they've done it to guitars as well. Just look at all those odd shaped and brightly colored electric guitars... If you haven't read Soul Music by Terry Pratchett, I heartily recommend it to you. Among other things, he reveals just how much of the guitar business is fueled by "guitar as costume accessory" ;D

I had a comment all typed up and LJ ate it. Wah! (Or is that "wah-wah", since there are guitars involved?)

Anyway, if I remember, I said something like sure, the style is a big deal. Steve Vai could play any guitar and make it sound great. But that one Nergye linked to above makes a certain impact, you could say.

Also explains why certain guitarists stick with blond-top, brown-bodied, very traditional shaped guitars. Wouldn't want to scare the audience, eh? I mean, considering a lot of the folkish singer-songwriter audience are quiet suburbanites of middle age. (Then again, maybe a little jolt would be good. <evil grin>)

See, I just couldn't figure out where you'd put the tail fins on a Martin acoustic. Near the tailpiece, you'd think, but where would you put your strumming arm?

All of them much larger, blacker, faster and with additional blue lights on them. Also, robot antennae. I declare that there has never been, nor shall there ever be in the foreseeable future, a computer shaped like a baby pika. Which does leave some people out of the market, of course, but still.

The specs are absurd. Even allowing for the fact that the "next" release of Windows will undoubtedly eat the entire capabilities of this machine for lunch and leave it crawling along at a snail's pace, right now this sort of thing just doesn't make sense in my opinion. It's rather like buying a Hummer to drive to the grocery store, or a 96-foot yacht to go fishing for catfish. Sheer ostentation, power to waste.

Hmmm. That is, shall we say, ridiculous. It looks nice enough, but more importantly, it has enough firepower to take out a Borg Cube. Quad video card?! Why would you actually need one of those? The Dual one on my new PC cost me, like £300 extra, and will be able to handle just about anything the next few years of gaming will be able to throw at it.

Also, "from £3,399"? Eep. I trust you're not actually considering spending that much on, well, anything? Never mind a computer?

...Actually, I think I prefer the laptops, on balance. Even one of those'd prolly be able to beat the crap out of mine, but hey, also more than twice the price.

It's pretty spiffy. It has specs I don't understand. /* sheepish grin */ I do like the idea of "terabytes" of data storage, though.

Why does it cost so much, though? The £3400 price tag would work out to something like US$6000 these days, but I can't say I've ever seen a computer that costly (not that I look at high-end gaming systems, though, I have to admit).
